Our Intake Process

We receive many calls from parents seeking advice for their special education problems. It is impossible to dispense advice responsibly without first reviewing the child’s educational records, including evaluations, the current IEP, and correspondence from the school district.

Our services include attendance at IEP Team Meetings, 504 Meetings, resolution and mediation sessions, as well as commencing and litigating Due Process Hearings. We also handle juvenile court proceedings against qualified special education students and Federal Court appeals. Ms. Toback is admitted to the Federal Court for the Central District of California and the Ninth Circuit.

Our firm takes great pride in assisting all families who have children that need help. We are mindful that economics, geography, or ethnicity may cause some parents to have trouble accessing legal services, and as such we may ask you for financial information in order to quote a fee for services. Few families can afford the true cost of attorneys to represent them through Due Process litigation when it is required in special education cases. Our firm works within its means to help families by representing them at reduced or no cost in the appropriate circumstances. When families are assisted, our retainer agreement requires the family to cooperate in recovery of attorney fees from the offending school district should we prevail in the litigation.

If you are ready to seek assistance for your special needs child’s education, placement, or juvenile court proceedings, the steps for our intake process are as follows:

1) Gather your child’s special education records, including all school evaluations and any private assessments, IEPs, progress reports, correspondence with the school district, and reports of medical evaluators.

2) Records can be faxed or emailed to our office. If you wish, you may send them by mail. If doing so, please call first and we will advise you where and how to send them.

If you mail in records, please make copies and do not send your originals.
